Motor cycle helmets these days have become more high-tech. Some of the additional conveniences it provides include the motorcycle intercom, motorcycle headset and Bluetooth motorcycle speakers among others which boil down to one thing – the enhancement and improvement of motorcycle communication.
The days of leaving your CD players, GPS systems, mobile phones and radar detectors have passed. There are devices now that enable you to connect to a myriad of other devices for talking with passengers (through a motorcycle intercom) and other riders (through a two-way radio) as well as for listening to your iPod (through a motorcycle headset) and mobile phones.
Modern devices used for motorcycle communication these days are grouped into 3 categories; namely the helmet-mounted, the removable and the installed systems. For the helmet-mounted, its main units are mounted onto the rider’s helmet, speakers and a microphone. These can be detached from the helmet.
For removable systems, they use a main unit that is attached onto the headset through a wire and then carried on a belt, tank bag or pocket. As for the installed systems, these are hardwired onto the power system of the motorcycle – either trapped to ground wires and existing power or directly linked to the battery. These headsets are connected by a wire going into the main unit. Thus, most these motorcycle communication systems use helmet-mounted speakers as well as a microphone but further details come with the installation.
There are also speakers attached with a Velcro. These can be removed easily as compared to others that need a more extensive installation such as using tools and disassembling the inner helmet padding. For most microphones, they’re attached with a Velcro but others are already boom-mounted.
For units that share similar features, the motorcycle intercom is a good example of this kind of motorcycle communication system. It enables the passenger and the rider to talk to each other all the time. Other common functions include bike-to-bike communication via a two-way radio or Bluetooth connection. Although some have built-in systems, others require users to add a radio.
For portable music and MP3 players which can withstand hands-free playback, they are usually connected by a wire through the main unit; via a Bluetooth transceiver (optional) to other Bluetooth systems or through a motorcycle headset. This is while other systems enable GPS system and radar detector connections.

Who says riding your bike has to be limited in cold weather? You could have fun riding your bike in the rain at 40 degrees. And all you need is to grab some Gerbing heated clothing and heated motorcycle gloves.
